This webcast presents and analyzes the findings from a recently completed EquaTerra and Human Resource Executive® magazine market research study. This study characterizes the current state of human resources (HR) organizations within the public sector, presents practitioners' views on the obstacles as well as the enablers to strategic HR, and assesses their progress in attaining their goals. It also discusses how public sector organizations are pursuing HR transformation - viewed as essential to achieving strategic asset recognition - and the roles that business process re-engineering, technology, alternative service delivery model, and other tools are playing in enabling transformation.
Our discussion will go deeper on many of the study's key findings, including:
- While one half of respondents view themselves as providing strategic value to the organization, the other half doesn't. And given that people are generally more positive about their performance than those they serve, this is a disturbing finding. This webcast will discuss what practitioners think they need to do to be viewed as strategic partners.
- Barely a half of respondents are satisfied with the technology they are using to support the HR function. This webcast will discuss what issues HR practitioners are having with HRIT and what they are doing to address them.
- Over 70 percent of public sector respondents indicated that becoming a leader in total talent management would make HR more strategic to their organization. This webcast will identify what "total talent management" means and what organizations are doing in this area.
- Learning management and benefits administration are the processes most frequently cited as being supported by shared services. Payroll was named the process most frequently outsourced. This webcast will discuss practitioners' views of and experience with alternative service delivery models.
EquaTerra will be joined by the Hon. Naomi Wyatt - Secretary of Administration, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Donald Packham - Executive Assistant Director and Chief Human Resources Officer, Federal Bureau of Investigation. Not only will they critique the study's findings, they will also share their observations about the practice of HR in the public sector as well as their own experiences with making HR more strategic.
