Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. today announced a benefits outsourcing contract providing defined benefit and health and welfare administration for Ameren Corporation, one of the nation's largest investor-owned electric and gas utilities.

Under the terms of the five-year agreement, ACS will administer Ameren's pension and health plans for 24,000 participating employees and retirees. ACS will employ its proprietary benefit outsourcing technology to manage Ameren's defined benefit and health plans.

The new contract with Ameren, a leading diversified utility company and major employer in the Midwest, helps spotlight ACS' prominence as a top provider of total benefits outsourcing and human resources outsourcing solutions.

"With ACS' sophisticated benefit administration capabilities, Ameren will be able to provide a truly integrated range of services for our benefit program participants," said Donna Martin, senior vice president and chief human resources officer, Ameren. "We are impressed by not only the caliber of industry expertise and technology that ACS brings, but also by the great cultural fit between our two organizations. By enabling us to enhance our benefit program support services, ACS will help us further our ability to be an overall performance leader in our industry."

Martin said that ACS' ability to meet Ameren-specific requirements, as well as implement and execute go-live services within specified time parameters, were other key factors that affected Ameren's decision.

"With our total benefits outsourcing capabilities, ACS becomes a partner to our clients such as Ameren, helping improve benefits administration services and foster enhanced operational performance through greater employee satisfaction," said David Bywater, ACS senior managing director, Human Capital Management Services. "This contract provides another opportunity to demonstrate why ACS is a superior choice for HR and benefits outsourcing solutions."

ACS offers a full range of integrated, end-to-end HRO services. Its pioneering initiatives have opened a complete spectrum of customized HRO solutions to large-scale clients around the world. ACS provides human resources outsourcing services for more than 3 million people around the globe, delivering services from more than 30 global locations in more than 60 countries and supporting 20 languages. ACS' comprehensive suite of HRO capabilities includes total benefits outsourcing -- complete employee services and benefits administration -- as well as strategy and consulting to engineer and improve HR operations and services.

St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation is among the nation's largest investor-owned electric and gas utilities. The largest electric utility in Missouri and the second largest in Illinois, Ameren companies provide energy services to 2.4 million electric and nearly 1 million natural gas customers throughout its 64,000-square-mile territory.
