The RightThing Inc. has been named one of the 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America. The list was announced on June 25th before an audience of more than 20,000 at the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) 59th Annual Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas. The organizations, ranging in size from 50 to 999 employees, were announced by SHRM and selected and ranked by the Great Place to Work® Institute (GPTW).

This annual list, now in its fourth year, ranks the top 25 small and top 25 medium-sized companies in America that use smart people management strategies to develop successful organizations with highly productive and satisfied workforces. This is the second year in a row that The RightThing has made the list. This year’s list ranked The RightThing as 13th on the Best Medium Companies to Work for in America list.  In 2006, The RightThing made the Small Companies list and ranked 3rd.

The RightThing’s flat organization where all employees report to the president, fifty-percent profit sharing with all full and part-time employees and 100 percent paid health benefits were given special mention as differentiators among the competition.

“I started this company with a passion to always do the right thing, knowing that good things will happen in return,” said Terry Terhark, president of The RightThing. “What we all try to do everyday within the company is to do the right thing for each other and that has just transferred to making this a great place to work.”

For this year’s competition, 321 companies participated in the selection process which included an employee questionnaire and an evaluation of the companies by Great Places to Work Institute.  Employee’s survey responses count for two-thirds of each company’s total score and the remaining third comes from the Institute’s evaluation of the companies in five areas: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

“Small and medium-sized companies make up the majority of the American economy and workforce,” said SHRM President and CEO, Susan R. Meisinger, SPHR. “These winning organizations demonstrate that making effective use of their workforce is key to their success, and their accomplishments deserve recognition.”

Great Place to Work® Institute co-founder, Robert Levering, said, "These companies stand out because their employees find them to be places where they can trust the management, take pride in their work and have fun. Other companies have much to learn about how to be productive and do right by their people."
