In business as in life, choosing a partner is a major decision?one that involves issues of trust, competency and capability. The best way to learn what a potential partner has to offer in these key areas is through experience. That being the case, it should come as no surprise that Intuit, Inc. selected ProBusiness as one of its partners in its new Automated Tax Return (ATR) service, an enhancement to its category-leading Quicken? TurboTax? tax preparation and filing software.

Intuit and ProBusiness share a long history together. Intuit has been outsourcing its payroll and tax filing functions to ProBusiness for more than six years, and from the outset, ProBusiness proved to be a partner Intuit could rely on.

"In 1994 we were using another payroll service provider that simply was not meeting our needs," relates Aurora Quintana, payroll supervisor at Intuit, a leader in e-finance, including financial software and Web-based financial services for consumers and small businesses. "Facilitating the changeover was a major challenge for me, but ProBusiness came through on all fronts."

The conversion was completed in January 1995, and in the ensuing years the partnership bonds between Intuit and ProBusiness have strengthened. Quintana gives ProBusiness high marks for meeting Intuit's needs, especially in the area of responsive, helpful customer service. "ProBusiness people always conduct themselves professionally," she says. "They are invariably knowledgeable and customer-oriented."

With their successful shared history in payroll and tax reporting, an expansion of the ProBusiness-Intuit alliance was a logical next step?one that has been taken with the introduction of the ATR enhancement to Quicken TurboTax.
The objective of ATR is to simplify the tax preparation process for TurboTax users by allowing them to import tax information directly into the correct forms from multiple sources such as employers, brokerage houses and mutual fund companies.

ProBusiness' role in the new alliance is to provide electronic transfer of its clients' employee W-2 information directly into TurboTax. The company has made this new employee service available to all clients currently outsourcing their W-2 printing and filing functions to ProBusiness. The service is free to both the client and to the client's employees using TurboTax to file their taxes.

As is the case with most successful partnership ventures, the ProBusiness-Intuit ATR alliance offers benefits to a variety of stakeholders, including ProBusiness clients, their employees, and Intuit TurboTax customers.

"We have allied ourselves with leaders in e-finance that consumers know and trust," says Bob Meighan, vice president of the Intuit Consumer Tax Group. "These leading companies are already providing robust online services to their customers. The Automated Tax Return is the latest example of these companies' commitment to maintaining leadership positions by offering their customers yet another free service to simplify their financial lives."

As for Quintana, she's known for quite some time just how good a partner ProBusiness can be. "I am responsible for managing the overall and day-to-day activities of the payroll department in a company with 5,300 employees and more than $1 billion in sales," she says. "I am faced with new challenges on an almost daily basis. One thing I know I can rely on, though: ProBusiness people are always there for me when I need them."
